Embracing The Winter: Yin Yoga and Qigong for the Water Element

According to traditional Chinese philosophy, the 5 elements (wood, fire, earth, metal and water) can be directly associated to the Yin and Yang forces, which constitute opposite and complementary energies such as dark and light, cold and hot, expansion and contraction. Nature and the seasons are also governed by the same principles. While summer is related to the yang energy and the element of fire, winter is related to water, which is the most yin element.

In winter the days are shorter and colder, nature falls in a seemingly deep stillness, and there is a strong calling to stay inside, rest and quietness. It is a moment to reconnect with our inner being and a great opportunity to go into our own depths while slowing down day-to-day routine.

In this workshop we will explore the qualities of water to invite fluidity, adaptability and gentleness into our lives, while turning our focus to within. We will use the practices of Yin Yoga and Qigong to stimulate the kidneys and urinary bladder meridians, both of water element, to bring our body and mind in balance with the cycles of nature.
